5. Ojukheon (The oldest wooden residential
buildings in Korea)
It is
a historic house where Sinsaimdang (1504-1551) and Yulgok Ii (1536-1584) were
born.
Do you know whose face is on 50,000 won bill? It's Saimdang Shin! She became the first woman to appear on a Korean banknote and has been featured on the 50,000 won note since 2009. Saimdang Shin was an exceptional female artist, writer, calligraphist, and poet of the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910)
The
5,000 won banknote features the portrait of the philosopher Yi I (μ΄μ΄), who was the son of Shin. Yulgok Yi I was an esteemed
scholar who, during the Joseon Dynasty, formed a formidable intellectual duo
with Toegye Yi Hwang.
When visiting Ojukheon, you can immerse yourself in the ambiance of the old era.
